Survey assesses current risks to UK charities

8th June 2009
An annual survey that examines the aspects of risk facing Britain's charity sector has been launched.
PKF accountants and business advisers and the Charity Finance Directors' Group (CFDG) are conducting the eighth annual charity survey and are seeking organisations to participate.
"The past year has certainly put risk management systems to the test," PKF stated. "In the wake of the economic downturn many of the feared circumstances have materialised, whilst new ones have emerged."
Focusing on how charities are managing risk in the wake of the economic slowdown, the report will examine the impacts of the credit crunch and what effective strategies are being employed to manage them.
The 2008 charities survey 'Managing Risk - a healthy appetite' indicated that just one in three organisations had "rigorous processes in place" to assess possible risk mitigation initiatives and 16 per cent had no formal process at all.
A poll by the Association of Medical Research Charities of its members recently indicated that organisations are facing increasing pressure on funding as a result of the recession.
