Charity coffers 'could benefit from new social network'

Charities could see an increase in communications activity and fundraising as a result of a new social network, it has been claimed.

The founders of Worldeka suggested that it "shifts focus from 'me' to 'we'" and will help to transform the ways in which people engage with such sites.

Brother and sister team Charlie and Sophie Cox have launched the social networking portal with strategic brand consulting and design firm Landor Associates.

"We strongly believe that collectively people can accomplish anything, so we designed Worldeka to embolden the socially engaged, engender online revolution and spark offline change," Ms Cox explained.

The word Worldeka translates as one world in Sanskrit and the site has had nearly 30,000 unique visitors from more than 80 countries since its launch.

Donors and funders advisor New Philanthropy Capital recently recommended charities to consider merging their operations in the current economic climate in order to reduce costs and make them more effective.
