Government provides grants to struggling charities

Third sector organisations finding it hard to survive the recession have been offered a lifeline in the form of grants from the government worth more than £3.6 million in total.

Under phase two of the Modernisation Fund, the frontline groups were given cash to enhance their resilience as part of the Government’s Real Help for Communities Action Plan and provide assistance to those most severely affected by the credit crisis.

According to the Cabinet Office, more than 400 bodies and social enterprises have benefited from the scheme.

"This vital funding will not only strengthen these organisations by helping them with the cost of mergers and partnership working, but also helps them continue to provide services through difficult times," minister for the third sector Angela Smith remarked.

Charity UK insurance policy customers may also be interested to learn recent data indicated over 13,000 organisations had been helped by the Grassroots Grants initiative, aimed at benefiting UK communities.
